Radioactive food is much more serious than MacDonald’s matter.

As you may already know, MacDonald’s is under trouble in Japan. Vinyl, human tooth or tiny chip of iron etc. were found in its hamburgers and other food. But is it truly so serious problem?

Of course, if I find vinyl, human tooth or tiny chip of iron in my meal, I will not have good feeling. But it is supposed to me it’s not much matter. MacDonald’s serves millions of food everyday, and its quality is relatively good. And under the global economic circumstances today, while ingredients come from oversees worldwide, it is almost impossible to avoid such little accidents perfectly. (MacDonald’s is different from high-class restaurants.)

If we think such little accidents concern, we should consider much more seriously the problems occurring from “globalization” and worldwide capitalism. Of course, also about the matter among increasingly growing population in the developing countries and food.

Concerning the food safety, I dare say, the matter of contaminated food by radiation is much more significant. Actually, contamination by radiation in Fukushima is never “under control”. “Under control” is serous lie by P.M. Shinzo Abe.
Why Japanese broadcastings have been telling so seriously about MacDonald’s matter? Have they forgotten radiation leak from Fukushima Daiichi Power plant? It’s hard to understand for me why they have so much concern about such little matter. Radioactive food in Fukushima (and other areas) is much more serious.

Incredible high rate of thyroid abnormalities of the youth in Fukushima

Recently I read an article on a “Eco Plus” page of Ria Novosti site, which wrote about the ratio of pre-cancerous symptoms of Fukushima’s youth. It is incredible; the rate of pre-cancerous symptoms (including cancer itself) is now over 48 percent.
When I fiirst read this article, I was suspicious. But already 2 years ago (in September 2012), a TV news told that almost 36 percent of Fukushima children had abnormality with their thyroids. If the rate of pre-cancerous symptoms was 36 percent 2 years ago, it should be natural that the rate upped to 48 percent.

Of course, I am not a specialist for medical matters. So, I have not enough confidence to my conclusion for the cause of that high ratio. But, it is supposed, that radio-active Iodines (mainly Iodine-131) damaged their thyroids when several explosions occurred in the Fukushima-Daiichi in March 2011.
As you may know, radio-active iodine-131 quickly changes non-radioactive element; the half-life period is about 8 days. But one time it damaged young people’s thyroid, many of them are going to have cancerous symptoms after that. We saw the fact after Chernobyl Disaster.

If the cause of that high rate of symptoms is by the radio-active iodine at the explosion in 2011, it should be said that we have no fear for that now. But other radio-active materials still remain in the environment of Fukushima (and in other areas of east Japan); They are contained in our food and water and they are radio-active Caesium, Tritium, and even Strontium.

Concerning the health of residents, esp. of young people, many of Fukushima area are no safe places to live in. But our P.M. Shizo Abe once told a serious lie in a conference of Olympic Committee that Fukushima is safe and contamination is completely blocked.
It comes to that Fukushima Disaster has not ended even now, if the news of Ria Novosti is true.

Photos of Toulouse

I have traveled in France by train, from Paris to Toulouse then to Bordeaux; and updating now from a hotel in Bordeaux.

When I arrived at Matabiau Station, Toulouse and walked toward my booked hotel, I was upset. Abnormal atmosphere surrounded the place and, I found later, the hotel was just in front of a strip club.
But in the suburbs, the city was felt a nice place to live in and beautiful.

Long time no see!
I am traveling in France now.
During these 3 days I am in Paris, and go to Toulouse tomorrow.

Actually this is second time to stay in Paris, and this time I have spent more time to walk around the city.
It is my wonder why so many people in Paris spend their time, eating food and drinking beer or wine at the cafés even in the daytime.
Considering the money-exchanging rate now, it feels too expensive for me.

Anyway,  walking around the city of Paris and seeing ordinary Parisiens is lots of fun.

Fukushima is no safe place (P.M. Abe told a lie)

Japan won the race to host 2020 Olympic Games, and two and a half year have past since the disaster in the east area of Japan happened. And even now Fukushima is no safe place. So, I dare say, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told a serious lie in his speech in the IOC conference in Argentina.
Abe said in his speech, “Some may have concerns about Fukushima. Let me assure you, the situation is under control. It has never done and will never do any damage to Tokyo.”
But it is clear that the radiation-leaking situation is not under control. Moreover, if a terrible earthquake happen again in the north-east coast of Japan, the situation would turn to, as it is, Hell on the Earth.

As proof, I quote several sentences from a Reuters’ article, that says——
“If you calculate the amount of cesium 137 in the [Unit 4 fuel] pool, the amount is equivalent to 14,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs,” said Hiroaki Koide, assistant professor at Kyoto University Research Reactor Institute.”
“Corrosion from the salt water will have also weakened the building and equipment…”
“And if an another strong earthquake strikes before the fuel is fully removed that topples the building or punctures the pool and allow the water to drain, a spent fuel fire releasing more radiation than during the initial disaster is possible, threatening about Tokyo 200 kilometers (125 miles) away.”

After the presentations of Japan’s members, answering a question, Abe declared “There is no problem…. The influence of water contamination in Fukushima is completely blocked within 0.3 square kilo-meters…. The contamination level of sea-water near Fukushima [Daiichi Power Plant] is less than 1/500 of the WHO’s guideline….”
But no one would believe Abe’s explanation.

Of course, I would be very glad as a Japanese that Tokyo won the bid, if Fukshima (and Tokyo) is safe enough.

My days with Sophie and Alberto

Recently I finished reading Jostein Gaader’s novel (with history of philosophy) “Sophie’s World”. With that, my days with Sophie and Alberto were over.
It took me relatively long time (nearly 4 months — that means more than 100 pages per month); the main reason is my hard-working days which from time to time came to me and interrupted my reading (but beer-time with my close friend also interrupted it).
I started reading the book just before my travel to Canada (Vancouver Island), and then I brought it with me. I mainly read in cafés and McDonald’s (sometimes also outdoors) in both countries. I majored in philosophy in my youth days and I know about philosophy more than ordinary people. So what the author explained (with the help of Alberto) is not difficult for me. It’s only outline of philosophy and its history. The true study of philosophy will never be put into only 400 pages. Nevertheless that book is great work (almost masterpiece) of the Author; it is still glittering after 20 and more years when it was first published.
To tell the truth, I have read the Japanese translation (from German) when one of my students recommended the book. But my first impression to the book was not good, because the author mixed sincere study of philosophy with fantasy. Then, while I went on reading the Japanese translation, my idea had become changed; and I decided to purchase and read the English-translation of the book.

Concerning the description of the thoughts of philosophers, it is very accurate with having medium depth — described from various aspects. Alberto often tells Sophie never “jump to the conclusion”. Maybe its the author’s position to the philosophical study. In our everyday life we often jump to the conclusion and say or do bad things such as a Japanese mayor Toru Hashimoto.
Another point that the book impressed me is his position to Karl Marx and socialism. Alberto, namely the author himself, makes much of Marx’s contribution to our modern society. I agree with his point of view. Even in 21st century’s modernest societies, people are continuously separating two classes, the rich and the poor. Besides, the strongest nation USA has been continuously threatening to force other countries’ markets open, with a friendly-sounding word “partnership”, declaring free and open society is the best. But in such society, “man is condemned to be free” (p.371 of “Sophie’s World” — translating of Sartre’s words). If I add, condemned even to become homeless.
Of course, today almost no one believes that communism with its cruelness is good system. But there’s another way going to socialist society: Social Democracy. I think it much better compared to Neoliberalism.

Anyway, the last chapter where Sophie and Alberto met Hilde and her father made me feel sadness, as if the 15 year-old girl and her philosophy teacher were saying good-bye to their reader.
My happy days with Sophie and Alberto ended, and they were gone to the past.

Significance of Historical Matters

For the fact that America and European countries conquered Asian and African regions and made them their colonies, we have learned at classes of history in junior and senior high-schools.
For American history, our textbooks have referred to the black slaves in the pages of Civil War with the relation of the both. Regarding the slavery of black people, — although we do not learn much about it — there had been also terrible situations in the European colonies such as of UK, France, Spain etc.

In the former half of 20th century, at the time of aggression and territorial expansion, namely at the time of “imperialism”, also Japan forayed neighboring Asian countries. It’s an undeniable fact.
Some people insist that Japan’s Army never did such things — as forcing to import and consume opium, treating negroid like beast, slaughtering Jews or killing tens of thousand people at one time by dropping atomic bombs.
But those things should never change the fact of invasion. Actually, before the defeat of second world war, Japan invaded Korean Peninsula so that it forced the people to change their names as well as their official language. Also in Nanjing, China, surely rapes and slaughter should have been done by Japanese even if the number of sacrifices had not been so huge as it was said at first.

President Barack Obama told, in his first inauguration (2009), that his father “might not have been served at a local restaurant“; nowadays they should not be able to do such discriminating acts. In fact, on the billboard of a day-nursery, that I saw in a suburb of Canada last month, there showed pictures of 3 kids with different skin colors standing side by side.
Furthermore, — there is nothing new to be said here because everyone knows it — those black persons in reality as Barack Obama or Colin Powell have been taking significant positions more and more in society; that is as well as fictional black people whom we see in TV dramas, which should be reflecting the real society in a depth or anticipating the future.
North America did break away from such old-fashioned colonialism. (But, in the name of “freedom” and “democracy”, the US has been carrying out military actions that in truth have relations with the interests of certain political groups and economic giants; also it have been attempting to dominate other countries economically using fine-sounding expression “Partnership”.)

Japanese Government’s spokesmen often mention the words, “mutually beneficial relationship based on common strategic interests”. But if we would like to have such relationship with neighboring countries, we should say good-bye to the old-fashioned colonialism.
It can not be said but anachronism that we call the leaders of war “eirei” (that means dead person at war with high spirit of patriotism), at which Japan invaded other countries in order to expand territories and gain more colonies.

Why such a person deserves to be our Prime Minister? — Such a person who asserts himself like right-wings on the web (also called foolish right-wings), when he was criticized his position of being thoughtless to our neighboring countries!
It is obvious under the view of human rights, how the consciousness of the political leaders in those days, if we consider the situation that they forced young people to die like guinea pigs at “kamikaze attacks”. We would not use the term “conservative” for the person who is longing for the past dark era.

By the way, I recall a matter of a “hawk” prime minister Yasuhiro Nakasone, who was on the post at the presidency of Ronald Reagan (– but Mr. Nakasone is still alive).
Speaking ill of America’s ethnic groups as they acquired poor education, he came to have no choice but resigning from Prime Minister. Of course, in his speech, he intended to show superiority of the Japanese.
